Greetings from the RoadRally Board, and welcome to the fifth edition of The Mike Drop. The Summer flew by, and Fall events are already underway! At mid-year, we compared the number of events to date in 2023 versus 2022 and found that this year is equally strong as last year.
Registration is still open for the 2023 USRRC, hosted by the South Jersey Region and the Philadelphia Region on October 20-22. As noted previously, the Committee added three Regional events, which will parallel but be somewhat less complex than the three National events. The Regional events feature lower entry fees but do not count toward the National Championships. Total registration for each day is capped at 30 teams (National + Regional), so get your entries in soon!
The NEC has received a proposal from a potential Host Region for the 2024 USRRC. They plan to announce the 2024 Host Region at the 2023 USRRC.
We are nearing the end of the rules change process for this year. Feedback from the RoadRally community on proposed changes was compiled and discussed at the September RRB meeting, and our final votes were held. The recommended changes will now go to the SCCA Board of Directors for approval. Due to the many National Championship events happening in September, the BOD will not meet this month. The RRB will announce the 2024 rules changes after they meet and vote in October.
In the next RReNews, we will ask members of the RoadRally community for recommendations on who should receive our Regional, Divisional, and Annual Awards for their efforts in 2023. During the 2024 SCCA Convention, January 18-24, 2024, the RRB will announce the recipients of these Awards.
As we look ahead to 2024, there are opportunities to serve the RoadRally program in several capacities:
- The RoadRally Board is seeking one or two new members. If interested, please email us at rrb@scca.com.
- The National Events Committee is seeking one new member. Please get in touch with them at nec@scca.com if you are interested.
- The Regional RoadRally Development Committee is seeking one or two additional members. You can contact them at rrdc@scca.com.
In each case, we hope to have the new members in place by the end of the year, so please give thought to your ability to help out.
