The SCCA San Diego Region hosted it’s popular It’s a Pie Run Road Rally on Saturday, December 3, 2022. This Monte Carlo-style rally took rallyists through the twisty back roads of San Diego, ending in world-famous Julian, CA, at The Cooler, Tap & Tasting Room. The name for the rally comes from the town of Julian, which is home to not one but two great pie shops, the Julian Pie Company, and Mom’s Pie House.
The rally Drivers and Navigators started in Carmel Mountain with the Drivers meeting, then headed to the rally course, covering about 75 miles total.
All rallyists successfully completed this run, and it was great to see returning and new rallyists. We’ve had some good growth in our road rally program, and the Pie Run had eight first-time and novice teams, outweighing all other classes that day.
We get many great cars in San Diego – you can run convertibles year-round here. The most striking car of this rally was not the Chevy Nova, the Pontiac GTO, or the Aston Martin – it was the 1973 Ford Pinto. Lovingly restored by the Moore brothers, it was driven from Chicago to its new home in San Diego.
